About Canal Street Arcade and Deli

Located at 308 E 1st St, Dayton, OH 45402, Canal Street Arcade and Deli operates as a restaurant serving Dayton in Ohio. This group covers the non-Asian restaurants, cafes, bars and food businesses that also appear in a mixed-cuisine food scene, including American diners, pizza, Mexican food, burgers, steakhouses and bakeries. Standard US restaurant norms apply: lunch and dinner service with a quieter stretch between, cards and tap-to-pay accepted almost everywhere, and a tip of 15-20% customary for table service. Fast food and quick-service counters expect payment up front and tipping is optional. Bars check ID for anyone who looks under 30, and the drinking age is 21 nationwide. Many restaurants in this group take reservations online through third-party platforms, while casual and fast-food spots are walk-in only. Sales tax is added at the register on top of the menu price and varies by city and state, so the final total is usually a few percent higher than the posted prices suggest.

Sandwiches are delicious but I can never go into the place without feeling resentful. One time, my girlfriend and I went to get sandwiches during the hours which you need to provide id (no children allowed). The place wasn’t busy, only a few people drinking at the bar. We were playing on a pinball machine when a bartender approached my gf and I to inform us that my girlfriend’s skirt was “too revealing”. Apparently someone complained. I personally never pay much attention to what people wear because I mind my business and do not sexualize the outfits of others. It’s also important to note that the same bartender was wearing a low cut shirt. She asked my girlfriend to cover up. We had to leave and change to come back and get our order. I found this incredibly disrespectful. After speaking to the bartender again, she mentioned that people needed to be dressed “appropriately”. Mind you, it’s a bar and there’s no posted dress code. This skirt was not “too revealing”. Keep your eyes to yourself.

I don't necessarily come here for the games, but there's a decent selection of classics. But I really want to talk about is the food, and in that regard, they've got my favorite turkey sandwich in town. Fresh, grilled sandwich with tender meats and fresh veggies, it doesn't get much better. The cooler has a decent selection of drinks as well, but I can't speak for the bar, because I don't really drink.

Great deli style food. I had the Club & my wife had the Italian. We highly recommend both sandwiches!! They have a bar with seating at the bar. There are a few tables for dining in. There is also outdoor seating along First Street. The atmosphere is cool with the video games & pinball machines. It is kid friendly up until a certain time & then it's adults only. I have posted pictures of the businesses hours & times & the rules for the kids.

Nice little spot in downtown Dayton. I was passing through and craving a deli sandwich on a Sunday afternoon and luckily this place was opened. They have a nice full bar with plenty of good beers in cans, bottles and draft. The bartender was super friendly and helpful. It was a little busy but I never had to wait long to order. The deli has a really nice selection of sandwiches. I ordered the large Reuben which was around $14. It was so good I got a second sandwich. The guy working the deli counter also was incredibly friendly and helpful. The place itself had plenty of seating and was quite clean. Definitely a perfect spot to stop in Dayton to get a delicious sandwich and a refreshing beverage. They also had signs posted allowing kids during the day which is perfect - they can play the old school arcade games while you wait for your food! Highly recommend!

I miss the old Canal Street Tavern. Can't tell you how many bands I got to see there years ago. Some of THE best local music and I'm glad that they left a bunch of the band stickers on the wall. I don't think Mick would be rolling over in his grave at all. You're keeping the location alive. This is where I come to eat a reuben sandwich. Best one in town and I've had a lot. Great place to bring the kids before 3pm to play some arcade games. The ones that aren't pinball are free (if they're not broken 🫤). Pinball is pay to play.
